A beginner’s guide to signing with an agency

Signing with an agency is an exciting milestone – and knowing what to expect makes the process far less daunting. If you are new to modelling, here is a beginner’s guide to how it works.

Getting scouted or applying

It starts with your digitals. You either apply directly with a few natural snapshots and your stats, or an agency scout reaches out. Remember: you do not need experience or professional photos to be considered – agencies look for potential.

The meeting

If an agency is interested, they will usually want to meet you (in person or online). This is a chance for both sides to see if it is a good fit. Be yourself, ask questions, and get a feel for how they work.

Building your foundation

Once signed, the agency helps you develop the essentials:

  • A current set of digitals
  • A comp card with your stats
  • A starter portfolio built through test shoots
  • Guidance on presentation and castings

Going out for work

From there, the agency submits you for suitable castings and bookings, handles the negotiations, and supports you on set. Your job is to stay reliable, prepared and easy to work with.
