Ask any agency what they want to see first, and the answer is almost always the same: your digitals. Simple, honest and current, digitals are the foundation of every modelling application and booking. Here is how to present them well.
What digitals are
Digitals (also called polaroids or snapshots) are natural, unretouched images that show your true appearance. No professional lighting, no heavy makeup, no filters – just a clear, honest look at you. Clients and agencies rely on them to see the real person before a shoot.
The shots you need
- A front-facing headshot with a natural, relaxed expression
- A front-facing headshot with a genuine smile
- A left and right side profile
- A three-quarter or half-body shot
- A full-length shot in fitted clothing
How to get them right
- Use even, natural light – facing a window is ideal
- Choose a plain, uncluttered background
- Wear simple, fitted clothing (a plain top and jeans works perfectly)
- Keep hair off your face and makeup minimal
- Stand tall, relax your shoulders, and look straight at the camera
Keep them current
Update your digitals every few months, or whenever your look changes. Fresh, accurate digitals are the single best thing you can do to get noticed.
Australian Model Agency reviews new faces from their digitals every week. Ready to be seen? Send yours through our contact page.
